Located on the site of an old mill, Haven 55 Restaurant and Tavern in Pineville sits on the bank of Little Sugar Creek. Tall Pines Distillery in Pineville is the county’s first legal distillery since Prohibition and features flavored moonshine. The company also won a gold medal in 2020 for its root beer. In the southeastern corner of the county, Whistling Springs Brewing Company offers gluten-free and traditional beer options with about twenty varieties on tap. Eat inside the cave or on the outdoor patio under a cliff. The Cave Bar & Grill in Lanagan occupies the former Truitt’s Cave Dining Chamber that opened in 1940. Open for lunch and dinner (reservations recommended), the menu features sandwiches like the Croque Monsieur and entrees like the Haven 55 Chicken sautéed in baby portobello cream sauce. Executive Chef Alan Bone opened the “casual fine dining” restaurant with his brother, Brian, in 2012. The restaurant and patio overlook a dam on Little Sugar Creek that once provided electricity to the area. They are very attuned to any special needs (health/diet) you may require and since everything is prepared fresh the chef will alter ust for you if needed. Wish I had some now! The wine list is excellent. Dessert was saute apples in brandy, butter and spices served over ice cream. Chef Bill delivered our entrée himself and had prepared an aged ribeye cooked to perfection along with the creamiest garlic mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. 1st out was the best Cream of Mushroom soup ever, next a great green salad, amazingly fresh and the homemade dressing was excellent. The chef specials sounded so wonderful I decided to just let the chef feed me. Deb (owner) greeted me at the door with a big hug and it was wonderful experience from that moment on.
